MRP celebrate Golden Anniversary
In September 2019, Midland Regional Printers Ltd (MRP), Nottingham’s premier print and packaging specialists, proudly celebrated 50 years of trading. To mark this special occasion, on Saturday 5th October the award-winning company, located in the New Basford area of the city, held a lavish party at Nottingham Rugby Club (whom MRP have sponsored for the last three years).
Organised by Directors Patricia, Michael and Catherine Tew (wife, son and daughter of company Chairman and founder, Stephen Tew) the event offered a unique opportunity for past and present staff members to get together and celebrate MRP’s many achievements over the last 50 years.
“1969 is recalled by many as the year man first walked on the moon, Concorde first flew and the Beatles released their Abbey Road album,” says Catherine. “But for us, it will always be remembered as the year that Stephen Tew founded MRP! And what better way to mark the occasion than sharing a fantastic evening with many of those closest to us.”
Over a 100 current and retired members of staff (plus partners) gathered to toast MRP’s Golden Anniversary, starting with a Prosecco and Pimm’s reception followed by a sumptuous buffet supplied by Sandiacre-based caterers, Posh Nosh. Entertainment was provided by magician Craig Petty from the well-known firm of comedy illusionists, Slightly Unusual. This was then followed by acoustic solo artist, Brad Matthews – stepson of MRP’s Commercial Manager, Mark Kimpton.
One of many highlights of the evening was the surprise presentation of a specially commissioned picture to Stephen who, aged just 24, started the company with co-founder, John Newbold. This was created by a Nottingham designer and presented to Stephen by Managing Director, Steve Bates. The picture brings together the portraits of the four premises in which MRP has operated since 1969.
“We started off at Lowdham Street in Carlton, which has now been demolished unfortunately,” remembers Stephen. “We then moved to Radford Road in Basford, followed by Triumph Road in Lenton and finally our current premises in New Basford. Our first building here was on Malton Road and we later expanded into an adjoining building on Nottingham Road as the company grew. Having a picture made bringing all four locations together is a lovely and much-appreciated gesture and has certainly brought a great deal of memories flooding back.”
“It’s our people who have made MRP what we are today,” says Stephen. “Everything we have achieved has been a team effort and I am immensely grateful, as I know Patricia, Catherine and Michael are to all our employees, both past and present. We have come a long way from our beginnings back in 1969 and I’d like to say a huge ‘thank you’ all the staff and clients who have supported us over the decades. Here’s to the next 50 years!”
